By becoming a member in TC India, you are by default a member of IAPS and can take part in their events and activities.
To become a member of INPS (TC India), you have to mail tc-india@iaps.info with the following details: college/university name, city that the college/university is in, and which year are you in currently.
If your college is in Noida you may contact the Local committee Noida at lc-noida@iaps.info.
If your college is in Delhi you may contact the Local committee Delhi at their president's email; anant.singh@iaps.info.
If your college is in Udupi you may contact the Local committee Udupi at their president's email; abhiramtth17@gmail.com.
According to Charter Article 7, there are 2 status of memberships in INPS, TC India.
According to charter 7.1, LC is defined as "Associations representing physics students whose membership is open to all physics students from one or more research or higher education institutions within the territory of a city, district or a group of towns."
According to charter article 7.2, an IM is defined as "Individuals who seek membership in the Association in the absence of a Local Committee in their region."
Events: There are multiple events we do as TC India and also IAPS. Other LCs also work on things especially in the vacations. By becoming a member, you become eligible to participate in these events. There are MEMBER ONLY events as well.
Grants: If you are hosting any event and take part in IAPS and TC India activities like organize outreach, school days or even conferences and other offline events, you require monetary support. As a member (LC/IM) you get this support by being eligible for grants according to regulations article 3.2.
Working group: Getting a chance to develop your soft skills, example. skills that may be out of your comfort zone, public speaking, web development, design etc. You get an experience of that by joining the working groups. Not only TC India, but even IAPS has WGs. The community requires help for recruitments, membership welfare, events, outreach etc. You GET to be an integral part of it. You make connections with members in the working groups as well.
Get to be part of the fun: We also host fun game nights and reading groups online for community building.
Voting rights: An LC has a voting power of 3. Meaning each vote casted by them will count as 3 votes in the decisions. As there can be multiple LCs in a state, as the number of LCs increase, the strength of the state also increases. This is according to charter article 18.4.1.
Community: You are a group of students who have a reach. Your surrounding colleges and individuals will be influenced by your actions and form a larger community. You meet people who you otherwise wouldn't have. (IAPS magic as i like to call it hahah).
Fees: The fee charged for an IM is much higher than what an LC might take from you. An LC being a collective, pays as a community which is fixed. As your community grows, the amount you pay to as individuals in an LC can decrease.
Membership and reach: There are times when due to less access for communication channels in a region, INPS is unable to reach you. Opting for a status of IMs helps INPS actually reach out to the physics enthusiasts there.
Events: You can work towards forming an LC while being an IM. If you wait for your LC to form, you become unable to participate in these events, both nationally and internationally.
Voting rights: IMs play an important role in the fair democratic process of our association. According to charter article 18.4.2. All individual members from a single state/union territory share 1 vote between them.
"A friend told me about INPS. When I learned more about it, I felt that I really wanted to be a part of this organization — to connect with other passionate physics students, learn, contribute, and grow together."
