Local Committee (LC) Noida was established in 2019 by a small group of students from The Physics Society at Shiv Nadar University, with the aim of building a community for physics students in the region. Today, LC Noida includes nearly 100 members and alumni from institutions such as Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, Bennett University, Amity University, Gautam Buddha University, and JAYPEE Institute of Information Technology. As part of the International Association of Physics Students (IAPS), we serve as a platform for students in Noida to engage with the global physics community. LC Noida was the first Local Committee formed in India and played a key role in the establishment of the Territorial Committee (TC) India of IAPS.
Held online over two weekends in July (19–20 & 26), this event featured two student-led workshops by LC Noida members and engaging talks by professors from both India and abroad. Designed as a collaborative space at the intersection of physics and engineering, it welcomed participants from across India and beyond, bringing together INPS, IAPS members in a shared learning experience.
AMPERE’25 is a student-led initiative by members of IAPS Local Committee Noida, organized in collaboration with institutions across the Noida region, including Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, Bennett University, Gautam Buddha University, and Amity University, with support from the Optica Chapter at Bennett University from 7th to 9th April, 2025.
The event serves as a local extension of IAPS’s mission to foster global scientific exchange and literacy. AMPERE’25 provides a much-needed platform for undergraduate and master's students in STEM to present their research, explore interdisciplinary developments, and participate in career and science outreach sessions.
Focused on accessibility and community, AMPERE offers a welcoming space for young researchers to connect, share ideas, and build lasting collaborations.
School Day 2024 was organized by members of Local Committee Noida on 12 and 15 November at Shiv Nadar School, Noida and Vidyagyan School, Bulandshahr. Targeted at students from classes 9 to 12, the event focused on the theme Crystallography and reached over 230 students through interactive science outreach sessions.
The demonstrations included a wide range of hands-on activities such as the piezoelectric effect, crystal photography using AFM, crystal defects, and physical models of crystal structures made with tennis balls. Students also explored the properties of minerals like Pyrite and Quartz and navigated a laser maze to understand internal reflection. The event was met with enthusiastic feedback, reinforcing the value of bringing complex scientific concepts to life in a fun, accessible way for school students.
School Day 2023, part of the annual IAPS School Day series, was celebrated on 10 November across Noida and Greater Noida. Organized by LC Noida in collaboration with Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, Bennett University, Amity University, and supported by the Physics Society and Celestia (Astronomy Club), the event engaged around 150 school students from classes 9 to 12. The theme Astronomy & Astrophysics guided the day's activities, aiming to introduce students to core ideas in space science through interactive learning.
Students explored a range of hands-on demonstrations, including parallax-based distance calculations, visualization of umbra, penumbra, and antumbra, sundial time-guessing, a laser maze, alien environment simulations, and a dynamic three-body problem and n-body simulation. The event also aimed to reach underserved communities by partnering with LC Delhi to include students from informal and under-resourced schools, promoting inclusivity and access to quality science education.
School Day 2022 was held on 18 November at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, organized by LC Noida in collaboration with The Physics Society. Aimed at students from grades 6 to 9, the event brought together around 80 participants from schools across a 50 km radius of Noida. The sessions focused on the theme Physics for Sustainable Development, encouraging curiosity about real-world challenges through interactive exhibits and activities.
Students engaged in hands-on experiments related to solar energy, wind power, water purification, desalination, and energy storage. Alongside these, a memory card game and DIY science activity added an element of fun. After lunch, students toured university laboratories to get a glimpse of research spaces, ending the day with rewards, informal interactions, and enthusiastic feedback.
Held online on 13 November, School Day 2021 was organized by LC Noida with participation from schools including Welham Girls' School, Vidyagyan, National Victor Public School, and Indus Valley Public School. Centered on the theme Gastrophysics, the event combined food and physics to deliver fun, hands-on learning. The session opened with a keynote by Dr. N. Sukumar and featured live demonstrations, which students followed using pre-shared ingredient lists.
Experiments included calculating the speed of light using a chocolate bar, making non-Newtonian fluids with cornstarch, creating jelly lenses to explore optics, and demonstrating total internal reflection and the Leidenfrost effect. A lunch break split the session to keep things relaxed and engaging. The event concluded with positive feedback from students and teachers, highlighting the success of blending everyday materials with scientific concepts.
Held on 16 November, School Day 2019 focused on the theme Elements and Materials, marking 150 years of the Periodic Table. Around 70 school students from across Delhi NCR attended the event hosted by LC Noida. The science exhibition featured engaging demonstrations on phenomena like the Leidenfrost effect, ultrahydrophobic surfaces, non-Newtonian fluids, and organic solar cells. Students also participated in hands-on activities such as solving graphite circuit mazes blindfolded and guiding levitating droplets across ultra-hydrophobic tracks.
The event included a keynote address by Dr. Rupamanjari Ghosh, vice-chancellor of Shiv Nadar University, followed by lunch and lab tours where students interacted with faculty and researchers. It concluded with an interactive session with undergraduates, prize distribution, and a vote of thanks. As LC Noida’s first event, it brought together a team of 35 volunteers and set the tone for the years to come.
